Antigone

Synopsis & intent

Through the re-imagination of Sophocles’s re-known Greek tragedy, author Jean Anouilh has created a timeless piece vital to the literary canon of French dramatic literature. Antigone recounts the story of a young brazen woman’s plight to honor her late brother’s untimely death. Fatima’s production of Antigone intentionally features an All-Black cast in hopes of challenging the overwhelming Whiteness in the French theater scene. Similarly, this production attempts to promote diversity and normalcy of Black bodies performing classical French theater.
